Memories Stirred by Teasels

The teasles in the foreground were thriving this season. The teasels in the foreground were thriving this season.

I was on a geocache with my son but I forgot to wear my old walking shoes.  We’ve had a lot of rain in our area and it had rained again just before we went out to find this particular cache.  I didn’t want to walk half a mile through very wet areas with my “good” shoes, so I lingered near the car while he went to find it.  While I waited I noticed the teasels that were growing along the road.  I hadn’t noticed teasels in the last few years, but I think that this year they are bigger than usual.

It brought back memories.  When I was teaching third grade, I collected enough teasels to share with my class and we used them to make interesting art projects.  That seems so long ago now.  —Well, it was a long time ago.  I have been retired for more than 15 years.  But the teasels memory is a pleasant one for me.

I didn’t not pick any of these teasels.  I just took the picture of them.

About NJ

I love to write! I realized in 9th grade that I really enjoyed writing. Every two weeks we had assigned topics that we were to use to write an essay. I liked writing the essays. I'm a mom and a grandma. None of my family live nearby, but they visit when they are able to come. I've been a pastor's wife and a grade school teacher. Now I'm retired and enjoying visiting others, and indulging myself in my hobbies, --writing and art activities. I'm very thankful for the blessings in life.

I know you must have SO many wonderful memories from your teaching days, Nancy. ((hugs))

That’s a lovely memory that you’ve shared with us.

I don’t ever recall seeing teasels in Florida. I noticed clover in the photo too. And is that Queen Anne’s lace?

P.S. I hope Rusty is healing. Poor guy.

Hi Nancy! Is teasel the tall mauve flower? I’ve always called that tansy… Gramma Edie thought that was its name. I’ve noticed it a lot this summer too!

Lorraine, there is clover and Queen Anne’s Lace in this picture.

Dody, a teasel is very like a thistle. It is the plant in the picture with the sort of lavender color. I am not sure but I think tansy is a yellow flower and does not at all resemble a thistle. I think it is kind of lovely, if it’s what I’m thinking. I didn’t look it up though. I’m really late in getting to these comments! NJ
