Mom’s Depression Glass Plate

I had to empty my China cupboard in order to move it away from the wall without risking breakage. One of the special, to me, dishes is this Doric plate with handles. It is one of my mom’s depression glass dishes.

When my dad courted my mom, and after they were married, Dad worked for the American Tea Company, as a door to door salesman. At that time they gave out dishes for premiums (gifts) when the customers purchased from them. Dad was able to buy some of the dishes which he gave to my mom. This cake plate is one of them. I also have salt and pepper shakers and a cream pitcher and sugar bowl. I value them because they were some of the first gifts that Dad gave to Mom, and she thought they were pretty special.

Dad gave mom this depression glass plate in the Doric pattern.

About NJ

I love to write! I realized in 9th grade that I really enjoyed writing. Every two weeks we had assigned topics that we were to use to write an essay. I liked writing the essays. I'm a mom and a grandma. None of my family live nearby, but they visit when they are able to come. I've been a pastor's wife and a grade school teacher. Now I'm retired and enjoying visiting others, and indulging myself in my hobbies, --writing and art activities. I'm very thankful for the blessings in life.

So beautiful, Nancy. Some of my favorite keepsakes are my mom’s gravy boats. 🙂

That’s a beautiful plate and I know it must give you a lot of pleasure to use it.
