A Secluded Cemetery

A family cemetery in our area

This spring we found a secluded little cemetery on a hillside along a country road. One of my hobbies has been to explore old cemeteries and browse among the tombstones.

This was a family cemetery with relatively few graves. Most were from long ago.

Some of the markers were home made, not at all professional, but speaking of a deep love.

I enjoyed the rural setting, the woodsy environment and the feel of the fallen, crunchy leaves under our feet.

This cemetery had a lot of character.

About NJ

I love to write! I realized in 9th grade that I really enjoyed writing. Every two weeks we had assigned topics that we were to use to write an essay. I liked writing the essays. I'm a mom and a grandma. None of my family live nearby, but they visit when they are able to come. I've been a pastor's wife and a grade school teacher. Now I'm retired and enjoying visiting others, and indulging myself in my hobbies, --writing and art activities. I'm very thankful for the blessings in life.

When I see old tombstones like this, I’m reminded of my grandmother who was born in l873, and passed in 1978. It still boggles my mind that she lived as long as she did, and how thankful I am to have had her in my life.

I love old cemeteries also, Nancy. 🙂

Sally, how fortunate you were indeed to have had your grandmother so long. Few of us get to know our grandparents for such a long time. nj
