June flowers 040

I learned about Lantana last year when my on-line friend, Ann, told me that she had planted some Lantana.  I had never even heard that plant name.  When I went to buy my annuals, to my surprise, I saw some Lantana in the greenhouse, and I bought some for my yard.  Ann planted hers in the ground, but I put mine into a large flower pot.  I think Lantana is a very unique plant, with its two rings of different colors on woody, shrub-like stems.  I enjoyed having it at my place last summer.  It doesn’t winter over where I live.

This year I wanted to buy Lantana again, but I had a little trouble finding it for sale.  Some places hadn’t heard of it.  One place told me it was on order but hadn’t come in yet.  When I checked back, I was told that it had come in but there was only one left.  Only one?  “I want it,” I said, and we set out to find where it was in the greenhouse.  To my surprise, “only one” meant, “only one flat.”  I did not want a flat of Lantana.  I was happy to get four plants.

My Lantana is doing very well so far this season.  I’m glad that Ann introduced me to this unusual and beautiful plant.

About NJ

I love to write! I realized in 9th grade that I really enjoyed writing. Every two weeks we had assigned topics that we were to use to write an essay. I liked writing the essays. I'm a mom and a grandma. None of my family live nearby, but they visit when they are able to come. I've been a pastor's wife and a grade school teacher. Now I'm retired and enjoying visiting others, and indulging myself in my hobbies, --writing and art activities. I'm very thankful for the blessings in life.

We haven’t planted lantana in quite sometime. But, I do like it. If I remember correctly it really spreads huge. 🙂

It wouldn’t be invasive in my area because winter kills it. I don’t how it would be in Florida. It seems like it would be easy to keep it in check if it started to spread. Thanks for your comment.
