Not a Weed

Rob's house and Clymer Park 015

This spring there was a row of this kind of plant growing in the flower bed in front of my living room window.  I didn’t really recognize it as a flower, but my instinct told me that it wasn’t a weed.  It was very leafy and looked strong and healthy.  Trusting my instinct, I let it grow.

Now it is blooming and I remember where it came from.  Chris gave it to me two years ago.  At that time it was one plant and I put it into the ground and watched it grow and bloom, –beautiful yellow, luminous flowers.  Chris said it would reseed and would come back the next year.  But though I looked for it the next year, it did not come back.  I thought it had died out.

Now this year, it is back, not one plant but a whole row of plants.  I don’t really know what it is.  The person who gave Chris the plants called it a moon flower, because it starts to open it’s yellow flowers in late evening, and then in the morning as the day warms up, the beautiful flowers wilt, droop and die.  There are a good many plants that people call moon flower and I don’t know what the real name for this plant is, but I do like it very much.  I’m so glad that I didn’t pull the plants out of the ground this spring.

About NJ

I love to write! I realized in 9th grade that I really enjoyed writing. Every two weeks we had assigned topics that we were to use to write an essay. I liked writing the essays. I'm a mom and a grandma. None of my family live nearby, but they visit when they are able to come. I've been a pastor's wife and a grade school teacher. Now I'm retired and enjoying visiting others, and indulging myself in my hobbies, --writing and art activities. I'm very thankful for the blessings in life.
